Her children's book The Girl in the Castle Inside the Museum was a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. She is founding editor of Fairy Tale Review. Associate professor and writer-in-residence at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette each spring, Bernheimer spends the rest of the year in Arizona.
