Amassing sources located traditionally within film culture as well as outside of it, such as film magazines, interviews, comics, literature, and songs, Suk shows that movie theaters and moviegoers made an indelible mark on the urban landscapes of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Author Biography

Lena Oak Suk is a cultural historian of Brazil. She is a research affiliate at the Institute of Historical Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work on gender and popular culture has been published in the Journal of Social History and the Latin American Research Review.
