Moreover, the book radically challenges the traditional picture of the Roman republic as a three-dimensional constitutional reality (monarchy - aristocracy - democracy), proposing that the Republic was more complex than that, as in it being a four-dimensional constitutional reality (monarchy - aristocracy - oligarchy - democracy).
