He graduated from the University of Washington, where he also received a PhD in English literature and was a professor of literature. His first book, \u003ci\u003eThe Unprejudiced Palate\u003c\/i\u003e, was published in 1948, and was followed by \u003ci\u003eImmigrant's Return\u003c\/i\u003e in 1951, \u003ci\u003eAmericans by Choice in\u003c\/i\u003e 1956, and \u003ci\u003eWine and the Good Life\u003c\/i\u003e in 1965. In 1946, Pellegrini published a recipe for pesto in \u003ci\u003eSunset\u003c\/i\u003e magazine, which was likely the first introduction of the sauce into American culinary culture.
